Assessment is a tool for standardization, one of the measurements for equality in education. It is, however, more complicated when it comes to equity. Various national and international tests have been used since long ago, and more widely applied since the beginning of Education for All. Most national examinations focus on children’s academic knowledge.

Some standardized tests like the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) are globally accepted, as they test both student’s individual knowledge and survey students’ contexts for deeper analysis.
