Business ideas are a dime a dozen. The execution of an idea is what really counts. Yet, many aspiring entrepreneurs don’t even reach this point. Why? There is a false belief that “you have to spend money to make money.” Many people believe they need to have a large sum of money in order to start their business, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
The origin of this aphorism, “You have to spend money to make money,” dates all the way back to the comedic Roman playwright Titus Maccius Plautus. Somehow this belief has been drilled into our modern mindset, although it is not always true. We were taught we must have money in order to start a business and make money. However, investing a large portion of your own money or taking out a large loan from a bank can be a big risk, and it stops many entrepreneurs from pursuing their dreams.
