An optimistic Jose Rizal once wrote, “The youth is the hope of our future” when he was only 18 years old. He referred to the youth as “the fair hope of my Motherland” in his 1879 poem “A La Juventud Filipina.”
On July 5, 2021, Philstar columnist Boo Chanco wrote about “Our Compromised Future,” also referring to the Filipino youth. Sadly, however, Boo was not as optimistic as Rizal about either our youth or our future.
